Hey everybody! ![]()
We may have missed Sunday…
but it’s still time for some LINK LOVE!
Great week last week, and we had a great turnout for the finale of “spoof week” as voted by you, the readers. Naturally, you guys wanted me to have it out for one of the more popular names in the realm of blogging… so I spoofed ShoeMoney.com in a spoof I called “ShoeMoney Cribs.” Check that out if you haven’t already.
It’s out with Thanksgiving break, and in with the final work push before the holiday season. But before we get into all of the news and events, let’s kick back with some of the best articles for the week ending November 5th:
- Winning The Web – How to Build Black Friday Frenzy
- Thou Shall Blog – 10 Tips for a Blog Design Makeover
- Blue Verse – SEO Myths You Need to Know
- Spark Plugging – 27 Web Promos That Have Nothing to Do with Google or SEO
- Nicky Cakes – The Affiliate Marketing War on Drugs
Winning the Web kicks things off with a Black Friday showdown, basically how to make your money on the day that rules shoppers everywhere. Thou Shall Blog talked to us about making-over your blog with a theme upgrade, what looks good and what doesn’t. Blue Verse disspells some more common SEO myths that have confused a lot of people. Spark Plugging went over 27 web promotion sources that don’t involve Google or SEO, haha, brilliant! Finally, Nicky Cakes gives us a hilarious post on the tie between drugs and marketing… check that out!
Stock Market Update
We had a short week last week, as markets were closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving, and only open half of the day on Friday. Despite all this, we saw a major rally take hold of the markets… as we saw a gain every day of the week. One of the major trends over the week was the build-up to the much anticipated “Black
Friday.” This is the day after Thanksgiving that marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season and typically features clearance deals galore. This plays into the hands of the retailers, who usually see a huge pop on business.
This year was no exception, as sales increased 3% year over year on average. This was great news, as we weren’t expecting such nice results. However, the bad part of this is that it is estimated that 70% of shoppers only went for clearance items, then left the stores. Typically, stores make their money by drawing customers in with low-price items, and getting them to “impulse buy” more things then originally intended. At any rate, let’s talk about what happened today (Monday).
The ISM Manufacturing index came out today with their reading for November. The number came in below the consensus estimates of 38.4 with 36.2… the worst reading in 26 years. Generally speaking, any number below 50 represents a contraction… so it’s not helping being down at these levels. Other than that, construction spending reports came in under consensus as well… with projects down 1.2%. This news fueled a sell off in the markets, which were bolstered by a week-long rally last week. We closed the day down 680 on the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
Jimvesting’s Spoof Video Contest
As many of you know, I am running my spoof video contest… where you could win a guaranteed copy of my eBook or a grand prize $25 Prepaid Visa (donated by me) if you are the best entrant. So far, only ONE PERSON HAS ENTERED! That’s right, your odds of winning an easy $25 are the best ever… so you would be CRAZY not to submit an entry… right?
Get your entries in now! The best video blog post (or normal blog post) spoofing my blog will win a $25 gift card… and everyone who enters wins!
Blogosphere Update
First things first, I wanted to talk about a few blog sales that are going down. Anyone who is interested in buying up an already successful blog and flipping it for more than you paid for it, you might find a great deal here. At the very least, go check out these websites before they change management.
- MoolahBlog.com – I’m actually considering buying this blog, being auctioned by a friend of mine. With a TON of posts and a great brandable name and layout, I wouldn’t be hesitant to pay over $1,000 for this one. In all, I think it’s a great deal… now selling on SitePoint for $500. Check it out!
- MelvinBlog.com – Though I don’t believe he has mentioned it on the blog itself, I have been a reader of Melvin Blog for awhile now… and definitely liked a few of the posts he has put out over the months. It’s got a decently brandable domain name, and is being sold on DigitalPoint (sketchy) for who knows how much… so go take a look!
Okay, now that we got through that little bit, I wanted to mention that Tyler from TylerCruz.com is running yet another Affiliate Marketing Challenge. This time it’s number 6… wow. It’s a bit funny to me that I just ripped on him during spoof week for doing exactly this, then he goes and confirms my joke.
The Week In Focus
This week, I plan on putting out my monthly earnings report for the month of November (wow, already?) and starting up a two-part scheme to drag in some more interest to theNetFool.com. What exactly am I talking about? You will just have to stick around to find out! Other than that, we will get the results of my spoof contest, assuming that more than one entry comes in…haha.
Stay bullish on the net!

Wow.
Huge update.
I like your blog selling part. It’s really unique and gives people like me some information as to buying and selling web real estate.
Great link love and really interesting to see the sites that are for sale. I would never buy someone elses blog though, you would loose so many reader because the author changes.
Yea, but you have to slowly rebuild confidence and readership. At least you have a base to start with…
Is the risk worth it? The readers dip and you have to slowly build it up. John Cow, didn’t really do it successfully.
Unfortunately, Tushar you and I will never be able to sell out our blogs for one obvious reason and you know that.
You ll have a base and articles to start , then you build it as per your style..I think is a good way to start a blog
Great Sunday Link Love Jim!
How long do the think the rally will last this time around?
Wow, melvinblog is for sale? I thought Melvin is in for a long haul. I remember when I first started I heard of his name pretty much everywhere. It’s sad to see another great blogger losing his passion. Hmmm, I wonder how much mine could sell on Sitepoint?
Anyway, thanks for the shout, Jim.
Yan
Damn straight! And I’ll be giving away that yacht eventually too, you’ll see!
last time when i visited your blog i was like a bit confused
You blog look like landing page of “MarketLeverage”.
Moolahblog definitely has potential for a good brandable site, but I’m not too sure about Melvinblog. No offense to the owner, but the main features is probably the age and the articles, while Moolahblog has a good domain and could end up like bankaholic
