BREAKING NEWS: SWATcash.com GPT Goes Down, Declares Bankruptcy

Author: Jim | Filed under: GPT Insider

Bad news for the get-paid-to (GPT) community earlier this morning as one of the top names in the industry, SWATcash, filed for bankruptcy. SWATcash was one of my biggest money makers here at theNetFool.com, so it is going to hurt seeing them out of the picture. However, I have thoroughly analyzed the problem and have talked to a few of the employees in upper-management at SWATcash… and as it turns out it was simply poor business planning that got the best of them.

The Story of SWATcash

SWATcash was formed in 2006 by a couple of average joes pictured below. I was always on good terms with the members, namely “SWAT AP” and “SWAT Brian” (the owner), and they definitely had all the competitors beat on customer service hands down. It’s kind of funny how fates reversed here, as they seemed to be on top of the world giving out an Xbox a day… until it all blew up in their faces. Clearly, the recession has made an impact on far reaches of the markets, even where many people thought they were safe.

The problem? Amusingly enough, it was exactly the same problem that caused the economic crash… risk management. Just like the greedy investors that bought, packaged and sold junk-status investments, pretending that everything was rosy, and individuals that took out huge loans (that were backed on literally nothing), they had it coming. What SWATcash was doing was trying to grow too fast… in effect, they were a victim of their own success. Rather than keeping a nice reserve of cash into the future like other companies did, they forced money outbound to fuel growth with extravagant contests and high payouts.

Owner’s Confession: Risk Management Problems

This was great while it lasted, but on the morning of December 1st… thousands of users were blind-sighted as Brian, the owner, revealed:

“Due to all of the recent events I am sad to say that SWATcash will be shutting down effective December 1st, 2008. We will strive to do all we can to get payments out in a timely manner. Unfortunately if all goes well we will only be able to pay out Offer Earnings, Referral Commission, Shopping Earnings, and Click Earnings. With shutting down we have to end our contracts with the company that runs our servers which is really putting the strain on the company’s wallet and possibly charging us more than we will have coming in, in which case we will have to file for bankruptcy. We hope that they will be glad to work with us and get that number down so we can payout all of the members who have made payout through December 1st.

We know this sucks, you don’t have to tell me twice. We are still waiting on checks that are now almost 2 months late to us. I have been told recently that a check was over-nighted Wednesday only to find out today that it still hasn’t even been sent. That is just how it has been going lately for us. We are doing everything in our power to get what is owed to us so we can get what is owed to you. We realize that this is a terrible time for this to happen as Christmas is just around the corner, but believe me that this is hurting us just as much as it is hurting you. A lot of you may think that we have a mound of money in the company that we are sitting on but the truth of the matter is, is that it’s just not true. With paying to keep the site up, paying our employees the money is going down just as fast as it is coming in because every lead is being scrutinized more closely than ever and it is taking a longer time for payments to be processed. Now days all a advertiser has to do is say “I think we have some fraud here” whether it be one lead or 100 and your full payment is held till it is figured out which can take months.

Like I’ve answered before, “Why don’t you have an emergency fund?”, we did but it got taken out when we paid out in August and we later received word of fraud from the month of July and August. That’s just how it goes in this industry and for a long time we took small hits here and there but never one this big. We always put the members first throughout this whole 2 year run that the company has been around and don’t intend on changing now.

We really appreciated working with all of the truthful members that stuck around on the site and forums from the very beginning. Without you guys we would have never made it anywhere. The forums were always active and fun to be around and it truly made my job a little bit easier with all the helpful members answering questions when a mod or admin wasn’t around to answer them. I want to thank all the mods for doing a great job around here keeping the forums clean and informative. I’d love to thank Jeremy and Will for doing an excellent job keep the site new with cool features and making the site as unique as it was. Thanks to Soylagringaloca who did a great job handling support and making sure it was done in a timely manner and keeping it as upbeat as possible. And also thanks to SWATAP for providing us with pictures for visual representation of topics and posts. He kept the forums lively and bursting with activity. I hope I didn’t miss anyone but thanks to everyone involved with SWATcash it was like one giant family even though sometimes it got a bit out of hand.

The site will go down sometime tonight or tomorrow morning. I apologize for how everything went down and how this ended up, but I give you my word that we will try to payout members what they deserve and rightfully earned.”
- SWAT Brian (Former Owner, SWATcash.com)

So what happened here? They were blind sighted by a rush of fraud within their major affiliate suppliers (the guys that pay SWATcash) and are now unable to pay out anything to their users. After having missed payment for two months, they have now officially filed for bankruptcy… and will more than likely not be paying their members. Since the consumers are always the bottom rung of the bankruptcy-payout, I’m a giving “reimbursement” a 15% possibility. :???:

Jimvesting’s Take on the Crash

Okay, so this obviously begs the question… Jim, why are you recommending a GPT website that is going to crash and not pay me. First, I want you to realize that SWATcash was a great company. The guys that worked there were top-notch, and their promo offers and high payouts gave you a high high margin. Assuming that you have used SWATcash for even a few months, you would know that you get 3x the payout on 1/2 the work with this website. I made about $2500 with SWATcash.com, whereas I would have made less than $750 equivalent with any other alternative.

“SWATcash was, in effect, a victim of its own success”

Is it over for the GPT industry? Heck no. This is a business that actually IS recession proofed (in a sense)… and the only mistake here was an over-confident investment approach by management. I know that competitor Treasure Trooper has a 3-month repository account that it doesn’t tap into unless there is an emergency. Cash Crate has a similar deal going on within their system. Neither Treasure Trooper nor Cash Crate has much of a liquidity problem as they don’t offer as many crazy prizes as SWATcash did. I’d still judge the whole arena safe as a whole.

Where Do I Go Now!?

The get-paid-to (GPT) industry as a whole is a great way to make money on your own to get a secondary income if you have some spare time after work. These sites present great opportunities to users who can casually pick up cash, and I have a new recommended base of websites that I will be evaluating over the next few days. I don’t want to declare a new recommendation lineup so soon, but it will be different. Rest assured, you can stay in GPT to make money for the holidays.

Hopefully, this crash won’t send major shock waves through the online space. They had a great loyal following, and were very much tied down to social media… creating almost a “cult” of users. Because they took so little profit, they gave so many people lots of money… very generous guys. If you were a member of SWATcash.com, I invite you to express your thoughts in the comment space here. So stick around, because I want to get everyone effected back on their feet and into the next-best-thing on the net! ;)

Always sucks to see something like that happen, but, like you said, risk management is key. They didn’t play it safe enough by trying to please their users “too” much.

It’s cool to be generous, but at the end of the day, a business is a business and you have to run it like one.

  2. flashlights December 2, 2008 at 3:42 am #

It’s not surprised. The economics is not good.

  3. Make Money Blogging December 2, 2008 at 11:00 am #

It is really sad to hear about the swat cash. I think the economic crisis is really a big blow to most of the PTC sites also. Do you think Google Adsense will get affected with this problem of economic crisis and risk management.

  4. Trevor December 2, 2008 at 11:16 am #

Wow. I knew SwatCash wasn’t doing good but not to the point where it goes bankrupt!

  5. Nicole Price December 2, 2008 at 11:55 am #

It is not just risk management! It is total management that seems to have gone wrong here. Anyway, they seem to have learned a thing or two and are sure to bounce back with something else.

 Oh man, I love SWATCash. Although I don’t make money with them (they’re not available for my country), they’re simply awesome.

    Hey Jim Im back!! :p

Well, Swatcash seemed one of the best of its type, but one thing i have learned in these years as a GPT user, is that if you don’t have a good plan, sooner or later you won’t have money to pay things…. this is just one more site that failed…. despite their different aproach… and success, that like you said, was their death sentence…

  12. Missmoney-EverythingGPT December 2, 2008 at 3:25 pm #

 Gosh, I sure hate to hear that, but it’s great to know that the GPT industry as a whole is still going strong! As with any type of industry, there must be changes and growing pains.

I’m sure that the owners of Swatcash will be back and stronger than ever from learning from their mistakes!

  13. Billy December 2, 2008 at 4:58 pm #

I was a member of Swatcash for about 6 months, and honestly I am pretty depressed. Not only the GPT aspect of the site is gone but I am also going to miss the online community just as much.

  14. Dave December 2, 2008 at 5:19 pm #

I am very sad to see my favorite GPT go. I just want to let anyone who is interested know that a forum was created by a SC member for former SC members to get together: http://s1.zetaboards.com/SWATcash_Unite/index/

Also, Jeremy and Will, the former programmers of SWATcash are already planning on making their own GPT site. The site itself won’t be up for at least another month but Jeremy has already put up a forum for his new site:

    http://www.gimmicklessgpt.com/forum/index.php?showforum=2

    Spread the word!

  15. Shawn December 2, 2008 at 6:05 pm #

This was pretty much the worst news I got. I joined that site after finding it on your reviews in late October and as soon as I did I was hooked. They had an amazing community and the actual site had aspects which were awesome, the world map and other stuff. The worst thing about this for me is that I never get to see a penny of my hours on there since I spent most of, if not all, of my money on improving my stats so I lost like $30 or so, but no biggy. Sad to see it go.

    • Missmoney-EverythingGPT December 2, 2008 at 7:23 pm #

      Shawn,

I know you, as well as many of their members, may be disappointed. But there are many GPT sites out there and a lot of them may not be as big as Swatcash, but they are just as good.

Good luck finding your new one

Kinda late for BREAKING NEWS by regular news standards. I would like to add that the price for the best payouts on offers is that fraud comes to your site rather than the competitors. That is a reason they got hit so hard by it. The site was extremely generous and I have been happy to be a member for the time I had.
In the search for a new best GPT:
squishycash: their holiday contests are kind of a big deal, even if their offer payouts arent.
paidthefastest: especially after Swatcash earnings devalued their instant payouts are appealing.
rewards1: easy conversion and high pay. Pays through custom orders no cash except for refferals.
not TT: theyre still a rip off

      Too late for “Breaking News”?
This post was written on the same day the news came out… looks like we have some harsh judges here

  17. Jordan December 2, 2008 at 9:53 pm #

The message was posted on their forums November 30th at around 7:00. Well only a few other blogs posted about it and they had very little content. Therefore I can accept this as breaking news. not so much BREAKING NEWS because caps lock is serious business.

  18. Missmoney-EverythingGPT December 2, 2008 at 10:03 pm #

Jim, I was thinking the same thing myself.

It doesnt really matter who got the news first. It’s still sad that it has happened. Don’t be so harsh people!

BTW, I heard it first from the NET FOOL!

  19. Dirkdork December 3, 2008 at 12:41 am #

Made over $900 from them by only doing $100 in offers, do the logic. Used to be a great site

  20. bluefire December 3, 2008 at 3:14 am #

I was devasted at the news Brian told us on the Night of November 30th..I had been with the site since it first started and had grown very fond of the community..it was like a death in the family almost..I had made over $3,000 in my time there and yes, they we’re generous to a tee…in hindsite too much so..

I’ve been at a loss at what to do with my time now, as I spent alot of it moving on the world map trying to finish mission 2, which all I needed was to find my last medal, but alas it will remain lost on the virtual map forever..

I’ll never forget the site and will hold only fond memories of Swatcash and wish the admins and members all the best for the future!

  21. Brad December 3, 2008 at 4:56 am #

It sucks they closed, but I’m sure most of it have known it for a while. I used to occasionally hop on SWATCash to do the daily attack, crack the safe, etc. After SWATCash closed I have been getting more actively involved with CashCrate. December’s Earnings: $257.81, then again I’m a super referrer

    Peace!

  22. SWATJeremy December 3, 2008 at 2:48 pm #

Unless they filed for bankruptcy since Tuesday night, this article is false. I would know. I was their programmer.

As the admin of TT, I just wanted to weigh in. First, great article and very well written. You seem to have a knack for getting inside information and I want you to know that I’m always available to provide further gpt insight should you ever need a source. I know we’ve talked a bit in the past, but don’t hesitate to shoot me an email in the future.

Here’s a little more inside info for you… I have spoken with some contacts at a few of the networks that swatcash was using. They have all told me that they never missed a payment to Swatcash. It’s possible that some of their other networks may be withholding, but they are definitely still receiving money! I wonder what they’ll do with it?

    • Justme December 9, 2008 at 7:37 pm #

Why would the networks give u private information like that? They should not be allowed to discuss another persons business with anyone else.

I must say I did a lot of naughty things on GPT sites 2-3 years back to earn a whole lot of money in a short amount of time, but I believe back then, companies didn’t even track much.

I gave up on GPTs when everything started going crazy and gift cards can not be used all the time. Those True.com, Blockbuster.com, and Netflix.com offers were the greatest back then.

  25. Erwin Tan December 4, 2008 at 9:19 am #

  26. Free Cash Money Gifts December 5, 2008 at 8:06 pm #

It’s a shame, it really was a nicely designed site and a great idea. I’m kind of wondering what an admin of one of these sites can do in their power to prevent any type of fraud or notify their affiliates of any fraud in their systems. I am currently the marketer for one of SwatCash’s competitors and I heard the news from my employer. Although it is my job to “dislike” my competitors I can’t help but feel bad because SwatCash really did help a lot of people bring in a little extra each month to get that extra bill paid, and this problem wasn’t truly their fault.

SwatCash was a great site with a great team. I loved it much more that any GPT I encountered.

  36. vojd December 12, 2008 at 2:30 am #

I was with them since they were small. I did notice that at the end they gave too much (in my opinion) prizes in chats and some too costly prizes – like $1000 random weekly in forum, I would think $100 would be enough. Too many lazy cheating money suckers got attracted, I guess. It was nice but I was wondering how they would survive like this. Honestly, I liked their approach a year ago much more.

Overall, I subscribe on some serious offers with real interest. Say, you are interested in Netflip. If you subscribe through SwatCash instead of directly you will get $20 bonus, not bad.

  37. uber December 14, 2008 at 11:33 am #

I loved SwatCash too. As dirkdork said, my profit was a bit too high. I think I made about $400 from offers, but got a total of $3500 in rewards, so about $3100 came from contests, referrals, etc. While I will always remember swatcash and all the awesome members and admins (I still don’t have any “hard feelings” towards the admins even if I don’t get my last $150 check; they’ve already given me way too much).

But the good news is, there’s a new site unrelated to swatcash, but by the same programmer. The preregistration link is:

    http://www.gimmicklessgpt.com

-Please note that not all the pages are currently working, but the registration page is available. The offers and “about” and “faqs” are expected to open in January, but it doesn’t hurt to register as one of the first few members.
