Day 26: Guest Star on Niche-Relevant Blogs to Boost Your Exposure

Author: Jim | Filed under: 30-Day Blogging

We’re stringing together two consecutive posts (a first?) today, and getting you another powerful marketing technique. Because we have built up our blog from scratch and have everything monetized and ready to go… we need to get the word out to interested readers, so it’s time for a little bit of marketing! :D

Our strategy yesterday was to steal some traffic (and, more importantly, readers) from popular blogs in your niche area. Now, we are going to expand upon this method and even more fully infiltrate other bloggers’ domains by guest posting.

Why Guest Posting Rocks

Guest posting is a great way to expand your reach and your reader base because you are literally putting your top stuff right in front of another established audience. While I want to encourage you to focus in on your own blog, there is definitely room to grow by branching out and giving content (with a link back) to other sites. By doing this, you are going to tap into a fresh pool of hundreds of readers, and throwing your link out there isn’t a bad way to boost your own RSS numbers and generate some good leads.

How to Properly Guest Post

Since we are doing this in 30 minutes, I would recommend using your time to search around for contact information from bloggers you know and bloggers that are popular on the internet. A great way to find relevant bloggers is to do a keyword search in Google’s Blog Search Engine, a targeted source for the web’s popular websites. Once you have a list, start making some content!

When you write for someone else’s blog, you need to make sure first off that you are producing quality work. If people aren’t enjoying what you are writing… who is going to subscribe to your blog? It’s debatable whether you want to put forth your top stuff, or simply a teaser to get users to come over to your website for better stuff, but most agree that guest posts must be interesting.

Once you have your content and your list of potential blogs to post to, go ahead and shoot out your articles to the people on your contact list and see if they will post it and get you a link back. You always want to give them the content up front… I can’t tell you how many people ask me “can I guest post?” to which I reply “I’m not sure, you haven’t showed me anything.”

PRO TIP: One thing that I have done is hire an article writer from the Digital Point Forums to make me 500-word articles for a few bucks… and then sent those out en masse to blogs in my area. This will get you tons of high-quality back links if you do it right.

Assuming that you have followed this “game plan,” it won’t be long before you have new users coming in from your competitor’s blogs asking for more of your stuff. Congratulations… you have just converted a following! ;)

Excellent idea. Get a freelancer to write you a great article and submitting it to blog authors sounds like a winner. Considering buy links can be very expensive, the investment in having an article written for fee is a wise investment.

Hire a ghost writer to help write quality material is a common task amongst business owners. Due to the lack of a standard price with ghost writers, business owners tend to shop around and hire a ghost writer who they think is the cheapest. But is this a smart thing to do? Can you really justify paying triple the price for a professional ghost writer?

This is a great technique thanks for sharing it. Guest posts are a great way to get subscribers and some traffic. Especially if you write good content. I like the idea of hiring a professional writer to write the article for you. But if they ever want you to come back you would have to hire the same writer.

Google values backlinks as much as the actual content of your website. They think that if other publishers link to your website, it indicated that your content is quality content.
By creating quality articles and publishing them to as guest post on different blogs, you will gain very good backlinks. Publishers go on article websites and get content to publish to their website with a link to your website as a credit for the free article he just grabbed.

I would say that guest posts do add significance if:
    1. Writer is known in his niche
    2. Post exudes the quality
    3. It’s mutually beneficial.
It would definitely benefit if both the blogs are doing well in same niche.

When you make a guest post on a popular blog, you’ll also see quite the traffic spike as people read the post and then click through to your own blog. The better you present yourself and your blog in the post (which is usually done in the form of a one paragraph bio at the end), the more traffic you will see from your guest appearance. Put some serious thought into your guest post, make it good and then craft a compelling by-line.

You make a lot of good points in this post. I didn’t think about asking an established blog if I could guest post. It’d make one less post for them, and could really bring on a bunch of new readers for myself. Makes sense! Win Win Situation, and I like those :)

Guest blogging is a great way to gain more links. Include one or two links in your post to related content on your own website and start building up those links with each guest post you write.

Hey Jim, Haven’t been over in awhile and must apologize for that. I am just getting around to doing my social networking and reading some great posts lately. This one of yours is very informative and I like your idea about guest posting although it’s not a new thought but I think it’s one that we tend to forget about. I seem to get quite a few guest post for MY blog, but I would never or seem to have enough time to write a post for someone else. When I ask for a guest post I do however like to make sure that they have a great blog of their own and that they can convey what I need them to, to my readers. Thanks for the reminder and the good info. jj
